Bubs in the News:
Tour 2007
For eleven days in March of 2007, the Bubs hopped across the U.S. and had a tremendous amount of fun in the sun of southern California, exploring L.A., San Diego, and Baja Peninsula of Mexico.
The Los Angeles audiences treated the Bubs quite well. They sang for packed crowds at Disneyland’s Plaza Gardens, as well as at the Goodhurt Bar on the famous Venice Blvd. At Goodhurt, the Bubs were lucky enough to catch up with Dave Iscove (B'95.5) and Jeff Murphy (B'94) by opening for their band AllRise. The Los Angeles Tufts Alumni Alliance hosted an afternoon at the beach at the Loews Santa Monica Hotel, and other Bub alums were greeted at the annual STAAG Night West.
Only hours after they left Boston, the Bubs were cruising downtown Los Angeles in full beach gear. After stopping at In-N-Out Burger (a Bubs favorite), they were found playing football and soccer at the beach adjacent to the Santa Monica Pier. However, by that night, they were watching 300 in the famous Grauman's Chinese Theater. The rest of their time in L.A. was spent at Sony Picture Studios, the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, Rodeo Drive, Chinatown (where Arkady explained to everyone what dim sum actually was), Disneyland, The Getty Center , 3rd Street Promenade, some great Farmers Markets, the La Brea Tar Pits, Pink’s Hot Dogs (where Lucas paid for what he ate), at the beach, or late night atop the Hollywood Hills overlooking all of L.A.
The relaxing city of San Diego contrasted well with L.A. From the eclectic atmosphere of the Gaslamp District to the historic village of Old Town, the Bubs thoroughly enjoyed their seaside stay. At the San Diego Zoo, we met some of Matt Kraft’s relatives, the Takin, who apparently only have a VHS player. The hippos, pandas, and Galápagos Tortoises were also Bub favorites. They also enjoyed a nature hike at the Torrey Pines Nature Reserve, some serious time at the beach, and a great night of singing with the San Diego Tufts Alumni Alliance. However, long walks on the beach at Coronado Island and sunsets over Point Loma and Ocean Beach just weren’t good enough without girls, so the Bubs headed back to L.A. to sing with the USC Sirens.
Being in L.A. a second time made the Bubs realize they needed some real spring break relaxation, so they headed South of the border. After finally finding Paul Alvarez’s official documentation, it was all about killer views on the winding coastal roads leading down to the port city of Ensenada. The experience to see just a small part of traditional Mexican culture was refreshing, from the lobster village of Puerto Nuevo to the Punta Banda, a small market town with a natural blowhole called La Bufanadora. Spring break was raging at Rosarito Beach, but the Bubs were due back in Boston all too soon.
